Explanation of the Process

1. Block Parent® Application forms may be obtained by clicking here or by contacting the Block Parent® office.

2. The final decision on a successful Block Parent® applicant rest with the Block Parent® Program. We rely on the Police checks and the Child Abuse Registry (CAR) checks to help make this decision.

3. A National Vulnerable Sector Search is conducted by the RCMP. If a Block Parent® applicant has the same birth date as a record in the VS database, a fingerprint check will be required at a local police station. There is no charge for fingerprinting for Block Parent applicants.

4. When an application is received at the Block Parent® Office, the necessary forms for a Child Abuse Registry check will be mailed to the applicant. Included in this mailing is instructions on how to proceed for the Winnipeg Police Service background check that includes the Vulnerable Sector Search. There is no charge for CAR approval for Block Parent® applicants.

5. When the Police checks are completed they will notify you by mail. Please inform the Block Parent® office when this certificate arrives. The Block Parent office will need a copy of the certificate for our records. When all background checks are completed successfully, a Block Parent sign will be delivered by a Block Parent® neighbourhood chairperson.

6. A Block Parent® School Chairperson will deliver you the Block Parent sign.
